Background: Leandro Dias Spavier grows coffee on a farm owned by Alex Sartori, called Bateia: The total farm is 43 hectares, with coffee planted on 17 hectares, and the coffees are cared for by all three producer partners together. This lot of Leandro’s is selectively picked and mechanically demucliaged, dried on concrete patios over the course of 15 days.

The farm has been in Alex Sartori’s family since 1912, and each descendant has gotten a plot for themselves as the family and the farm has grown. Bateia de Cleide was named for Alex Sartori’s mother, who was the original owner; today, Alex and Leandro work together on the farm to produce specialty coffee. The farm is covered with native forests on about 35 percent of the property.
